AWAKENING THE HEART

An art collection that emerged during the Corona pandemic in 2022. Drawing on Islam’s very rich spiritual heritage, it reflects on the facets of faith, in these times of global chaos and the fleeting nature of the material world. This body of work poured out of me after my return from a deeply personal spiritual retreat.

Vital Surge, detail - mixed media painting on paper of a tree standing firm against a torrent of water, with abstract round shapes, leaf-like forms and a pale teal-green abstract shape, from the Let Go collection
Radiant, mixed media painting on paper of two white flowers with dark centres on navy, with mustard and teal shapes, alongside fragments of two more Let Go paintings

Four paintings from the Let Go collection - Vital Surge, Rising, Radiant and At Sea

ART FOR THE SOUL

Paintings to meditate upon. This series was inspired by a tiny delicate flower that presented itself to me twice on two different locations during my retreat. It seemed to be conveying a powerfully meaningful message. I have learned to pay attention to these serendipitous encounters. I was profoundly touched when I noticed it as I had never seen it before. What we need to hear is communicated to us in mysterious ways.

POETIC MUSINGS

Introspections on the delicate thread connecting us to the Divine. Swirling and whirling - the material realm threatens to pull us out of our centre and away from our true nature. Our fleeting glimpses of the deep silent unfathomable depths within give us hope. There is something much greater at work here.

Dance of Life, mixed media painting on paper held up by hand, with a tree, yellow leaf-like forms and Arabic text reading "occupies the heart," from the Let Go collection
Framed paintings from the Let Go collection, showing Amidst the Storm in full, with Radiant, Deeply Rooted, At Sea and Vital Súrge partly visible, arranged diagonally on a marble surface

FRAMED & READY TO HANG

Each painting was delivered framed and ready to hang, enhanced by a light neutral cradle frame with a double matting that gently draws you inwards as you gaze on the work. Every painting was shipped, wherever its new home happened to be in the world.

Hello Sara, your art in these pieces caught Hala’s and my attention right away when we saw it. The pieces evoke joy and leave something for the imagination. At first glance, they seem to have some similarity, but then each one becomes its own character and stands out as different and special. In a nutshell, they simply give out such a pleasant vibe. They’ll all be displayed in a very prominent place as a group at The Amman Academy Diwan beckoning visitor each to his or her own experience and interpretation. Thanks again 🙏😊
